Big Zeus is waiting for a family to call his own - is it with you?
BZ LOVES people. He always draws a crowd because of his size, and he eats up all the attention he gets. His favorite thing is a scratch massage, and he will roll onto his back to make sure you don’t forget his tummy!
This sweet senior’s dream day is spent helping his favorite people garden by laying on a deck or finding a shady spot under a tree where he can supervise the gardening or take a nap. His adoptive family will have to be mindful of the temperature when he is outside, as he will not ask to go inside even in extreme temperatures and this could result in him becoming overheated.
BZ would love being adopted by someone who is retired or works from home and home most of the time. He cannot be crated; he has extreme crate anxiety and will hurt himself attempting to escape the crate. However, he is such a good boy that he really doesn’t need to be crated. His foster mom can leave him out when she isn’t home confidently because he just chills and doesn’t get into things.
He does not have significant exercise requirements and does not enjoy long walks; when he’s done, he’s done and will let you know by sitting or laying down!
This handsome fella is currently 122 pounds of love, and his vet has said that he needs to lose about 20 pounds - though BZ respectfully disagrees. His adoptive family will have to help him achieve his healthy weight, which may take some work and self discipline, as he is not the most active guy and has a really cute face that’s hard to say no to.
BZ cannot be with cats or small dogs, and his adoptive family should always exercise caution when introducing him to other dogs. He was dog selective when he was younger, but now that he’s a senior he seems more tolerant of larger dogs but supervised dog intros would have to be done with any potential adopter whom has other furry companions to see what BZ thinks.
BZ is very easy to handle and cooperates with almost anything you need to do, such as nail trims and brushing his teeth. He is a rockstar in the car and loves going for rides. His adoptive family will need a big back seat and ramp if the vehicle is high to help him get in and out.
BZ was diagnosed in 2018 with proteinuria. Proteinuria is a condition in the kidneys where there are abnormally high protein levels in the urine. There is no cure, only management. He will need to be on medication and prescription food for the rest of his life. The medication isn’t expensive and this condition is affordable to manage.
If Big Zeus sounds like the perfect addition to your family, put in an application today. This handsome guy won’t be available for long!
